FRISCO— First place North Texas SC travels to face seventh place Toronto FC II at BMO Training Ground on Wednesday, May 29 at 3 PM. The match will be the first of four road games in a row for Eric Quill's team, as they won’t play in Toyota Stadium again until the end of June to face FC Tucson. Wednesday's match in Toronto will be the first time North Texas SC competes outside the United States.

Current Form

Last Wednesday saw North Texas SC return to its best as it defeated Forward Madison FC 3-1 on the back of two early goals from Ronaldo Damus and David Rodriguez. The fast start was exactly what head coach Eric Quill wanted after his team was forced to score two last-minute goals to earn a draw against Lansing Ignite FC in the match prior. Although Forward Madison responded with a goal of its own in the 15th minute to half the deficit, North Texas remained in firm control of the match and sealed the three points and its sixth win of the season when Imanol Almaguer scored his first professional goal 20 minutes from time with a strike from outside the box. The victory made it five wins out of five at Toyota Stadium over the first two months of the season.

The Opponent

Toronto FC II snapped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over FC Tucson in its first home match of the season to move up to seventh place in the standings. Prior to its losing streak, Toronto was one of two undefeated teams in the league having enjoyed a promising start with two wins and a draw. With three of its next four games to be played at BMO Training Ground, Toronto will be looking to capitalize on its home stretch starting with North Texas on Wednesday afternoon.

Players to Watch

North Texas’ player to watch on Wednesday is Arturo Rodriguez. The Mexican playmaker has been in superb form recently with two goals, three assists and 16 chances created on the season—the second most in the league. An attacking midfielder by trade, Rodriguez has been lining up in a left-wing position over the last few games and has been using his role to great effect. Rodriguez had a hand in two of North Texas’ three goals last week, first setting up his younger brother David with an assist and then contributing to Imanol Almaguer’s strike with a clever dummy to create time and space for his teammate to unleash his shot.

Griffin Dorsey is Toronto’s player to watch for Wednesday’s game. The wide midfielder is a crucial contributor to Toronto’s attacking having assisted three of its nine goals on the season. Dorsey has also created 10 chances in his seven appearances, three more than anyone else on his team. The Colorado native isn’t afraid to take chances himself either; although he has yet to score, Dorsey has attempted the most shots of any Toronto player (11). Considering Dorsey has created one-third of Toronto’s goals this season, he is definitely a player to watch for Toronto on Wednesday.
